Scrumptious Suhoor: Date Smoothie

I love smoothies! This is one super-energizing smoothie that is very filling and refreshing! That’s why I’m loving smoothies to be the best suhoor meals in these summers, also because its a sunnah to eat dates in suhoor. The dates are a great source of energy and fiber and black raisins a treasure of Vitamin C, which keeps you energized and active throughout the day.
This recipe is best made overnight, but there’s an instant version too, so don’t worry if you forget to soak overnight. You just need some extra ice in the instant one.

Ingredients:
Dates (seeded and cut in half) – 3 or 5
Black raisins – 1 tsp.
Chia seeds – 1 tsp.
Water – about ¼ cup
Milk – 1 cup
Banana (or any other fruit) *optional*
Ice cubes (as needed)

Method (Overnight):
Soak the first three ingredients in water overnight. Use enough water to cover them. In the morning, pour the soaked mixture into the blender and blend until everything is pureed. Add in the milk and ice, and fruits if using, blend well and serve.

Method (Instant):
If you forget to soak the dates, raisins and chia seeds, put them in a saucepan and pour enough water to cover them. Set on medium heat and let simmer until raisins and dates have softened. Remove from heat and keep stirring for a while to let cool. Then blend until pureed. Add rest of the ingredients, and blend well before serving. You will need more ice because of the hot mixture.
